My name is Christie & I can be kinda hard on myself. Anyone else confessing the same? I can’t be alone. I don’t mean to be self critical. I do it all in the name of self improvement. I like to analyze what went well as well & also what I can improve upon. I think this makes me better because I see mistaskes and contstantly work to improve. This applies in my life in all aspects – parenting, wife-ing (is that a word?!!), business, friending…
But this past week a friend told me that he’s a front windshield type of guy. It made me really reflect on the merits of which windshield we look out. I would like to say I am a front windshield girl because I am strategic in business and in life – but I do get caught up in “if only” and “why?” and I think that’s the rear windshield view.
Other than to learn & improve, I think we also sometimes cling to looking at the rear windshield because the future is so unknown. Sometimes the rear view also seemed better or at least easier. Every facet of life that is unknown is both exciting and scary. I have almost grown kids. So scary. What will they become? I am in a new phase of my business life with a new business and a new way of doing business. Scary. We will be empty nesters soon. Sure hope we still have things to talk about & do. Scary.
Some of you are new mommies & unsure of how to do this. Scary. Some of you are still in college excited but terrified of your future. Some are so busy that you don’t have time to do anything other than put one foot in front of another.
So here are 3 tips regarding which windshield to look out …
- Look in the rearview mirror and see the past out the back windshield. Evaluate it to learn from. Cherish the memories. Then move on. The key here is the move on. 🙂
- Look out the front windshield and see the vast possibilities ahead. Embrace that it can be a little scary, but also so exciting. Why not choose excitement? Pray for direction on which road to take. Then move on. Surprising I know. The key here is also to move on.
- Turn up the music, grab your fave beverage and turn on the seat warmer (it’s cold here today in Texas!) and ENJOY THE RIDE YOU’RE TAKING RIGHT NOW! I want to be a live in the moment kind of girl. If we are too busy looking behind or looking ahead, we will miss the passengers in the car with us right now and the scenery out the window right now. For those who have known me a long time, you will know where this is heading….to one of my favorite . expressions that I live by….CHERISH THE . MOMENTS! Take it in & enjoy it. This will be a memory soon. So stop and be thankful for this very moment. Every day is a gift & we will never get this day back.
So there ya have it. My first blog post ever sharing some of my fave advice in . life. I am not going to try to be too self critical of how this website or post isn’t perfect. I’m going to look forward with anticipation to using this website to help more people once I figure this out.
But for right now, I’m just going to smile and relax and enjoy that I finally got my thoughts to you on paper. I’m going to cherish this moment.
Which windshield are you looking out, my friend? What could you stop to cherish?
